Chilean Miners Rescued from Jerusalem Traffic Jam

24 visiting Chilean miners were rescued after being stuck in what has been called Jerusalem’s worst traffic jam since King David accidentally left the royal stables open.

Tourism Minister Stas Misezhnikov (a questionably Sephardic sounding name at best) said that the trip was unofficial and not coordinated between governments. At the time of the incident, the miners and their families were staying as “special guests” of the Israeli Ministry of Tourism.

The clogger occurred after a visit to the Kotel Tunnels was abruptly canceled, forcing the Chilean touring party to turn the wrong way en rout to the Knesset. Fortunately, no one was hurt. However, for 13 grueling hours, all traffic in the Old City came to a grinding halt while pedestrians tirelessly snaked water and energy bars to the stuck motorists, and make-shift bands provided Klezmer music.

On August 5, 2010, a cave-in left 33 men trapped underground for 69 days.

Israeli Tourism Minister Stas Misezhnikov (no relation to the Czar) insisted that the miners’ tour had produced positive media coverage and extended an invitation to all people who suffer from phobias to continue their visits to Jerusalem.

Painting these Chilean miners like Keystone cops getting trapped everywhere they go is amusingly funny.

    Thanks
